Tipsy Scoop made my 2017 Holiday Guide because they are a local shop who managed to combine ice cream and alcohol in way that would make your stomach smile. The ratio of ice cream and alcohol is perfect!
The overall texture is creamy yet light and smooth. The first bite is the only one where you really taste the alcohol. But the more bites you take the less you taste it. Which is a good thing. It’s ice cream and that’s what you should be enjoying. The two main Ingredients shouldn’t be competing with each other.
I wanted to combine the best of both worlds and infuse traditional ice cream flavors with different liquors. I finally perfected the recipes and came up with creamy, tipsy and delicious treats!
What kind of flavors does Tipsy Scoop have?
There are more than a dozen flavors that include: Vanilla Bean Bourbon, Cake Batter Vodka Martini, “Hot” Buttered Rum and Chocolate Stout and Pretzel just to name a few.
They even have holiday flavors such as Candy Kane Vodka Martini, Drunken Gingerbread, Holiday Spiced Eggnog Man and for New Years Eve Blood Orange Champagne Sparkler. Want to try them all? You can get the holiday flavors in a 6-pack. Making them sweet holiday gifts for friends or for yourself.
Candy Kane Vodka Martini
Now if you don’t trust yourself to not eat the whole container in one sitting visit their ice cream parlor for a scoop or two or three. This little shop of heaven is located at 217 East 26th Street (between 2nd and 3rd Avenues) in Manhattan. Not in the city? Don’t fret they deliver NATIONWIDE!
I’ve been following Tenia on Instagram for god knows how long, so when I saw she had a new cocktail e-book I knew I had to get a copy. Y’all know how I love to drink. But the problem with cocktails are the calories. ? Hey listen, I can only pretend for so long that I’m not drinking three times my weight in cocktail calories.
Which makes ‘Drink Sexy’ such a fortune find. These fun and super easy to make recipes are not only perfect for any and every occasion, but will allow you to indulge without worrying if you’re blowing your diet with high calorie cocktails. I needed too catch up with Tenia to find out how this e-book came to be and if we could expect more from her in the future.
What inspired you to write Drink Sexy?
Many of our followers and friends would ask us for low calorie drink ideas. They loved cocktails but hated how many calories many of them were. A standard restaurant margarita is about 800 calories, and seriously who’s drinking just one?
Is Drink Sexy only for health conscious drinkers or is it for anyone?
Drink Sexy is for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you’re counting calories or just looking for a new recipe to try. It’s also not just for women…guys can definitely benefit from our book too.
What is your favorite recipe from the book?
The Deevah Mary. We love a good bloody Mary, so we created our own with a twist on it. Pickle Juice is our secret ingredient.
Do you have any plans to write future books for curve conscious women?
Hmmm…we’re not sure. We do however plan on releasing several more books ranging from how to throw a cocktail party to proper wine etiquette. But you never know, if there’s a demand for something, we just may release something else for the curve conscious woman.
Thanks Tenia for taking the time to chat. I am so excited for your new e-book. I can’t wait to try some of these recipes and I look forward to seeing what else you have in store for Cocktails and Drapes.
What happens when you run out of ways to take self-care at home? You order a MAI box. This bi-monthly box helps you relax and reflect. Created by Lenora Woods, MAI box caters to stay at home moms and busy on-the-go moms to help them take better care of themselves.
Recently launched in January, MAI Box is a bi-monthly Christian based self-care subscription box that’s filled with everything a mom of any faith would need to welcome peace and relaxation into her hectic life.
This box came with:
Grace Planners to help you plan your self-care for the year.
J.K. Rowling’s ‘Very Good Lives‘ a book filled with wisdom for those entering a turning point in their lives.
Scrubs and Scrubs Lemon Pound Cake Body Scrub.
A stack of Topsie Ties. Perfect accessories for your shirt, skirts and scarves.
Nail polish by Lenora.
Earrings from TYPENU.
T-Shirt that says Fearfully and Wonderfully Made from Proverbs 139:14. Bino & Fino cartoon for the kiddies. This educational DVD teaches children about Nigerian culture.
And a magazine – this is my favorite part of the box. The magazine features a new mom every month and in it you can read about what she does for a living, how she manages and what she does to get self-care. I was honored to be chosen for the very first issue and I hope that subscribers can take away tips business and life tips, and know mostly importantly they are not alone.
I really enjoyed this box. The planner was really a great touch because it’s hard to plan time for yourself. You can see I’ve totally fallen off the wagon for my daily self-care challenge. And that’s okay. This will help me get back on track and the religious passages at the top of each week give me the inner peace and the strength to know that I CAN do this!
I wanted to know more about Lenora and MAI Box so it was my turn to interview her.
What is MAI box and how did it come to be?
I caught up with Lenora to chat with her about MAI Box. Here’s how it went down.
Hey Lenora – it’s so great to chat with you. Congratulations on the launch of MAI box. Tell me about yourself and your family:
Thank you! I’m originally from Fredericksburg, VA. I’ve lived in Atlanta for 11 years. I moved to ATL after college at East Carolina University in North Carolina. I am married and we have two boys: James (4 years old) and Jasiah (2 years old).
Where did the idea of starting a self-care subscription box come from?
When I had my first child (James a.k.a JL) I was trying to figure out another business so that I could stay at home with him and the idea of a subscription box for babies came about but I never moved on it. (LOL) So, I continued working my currently business in PR.
It wasn’t until after the second child (Jasiah) that the idea resurfaced. This time, I wasn’t necessarily interested in providing moms with items for the baby. I felt like moms need stuff for themselves. At this time, I was acting as a single mom because my husband started driving trucks and was gone for 2-3 weeks at a time. I got a good taste of single motherhood. I had some help from my sisters who live close but it was all on me. Boy was I always tired!! Everything I did was for and centered around my babies.
My “me time” or my time of rest and relaxation was literally when I was asleep…and that was always cut short! I knew I wasn’t the only mom experiencing this. When you buy something for yourself or want to go out with friends or do something for yourself, you feel guilty. You think, “that money could have paid for diapers and wipes, baby clothes and everything else. I really needed something like MAI Box to introduce me to new and fun products and to keep me encouraged….and to have something I could be a little selfish about!
How did you come up with its name?
I started with The Mom Box. The domains were free, all social handles were free, however I did some extra digging and research and found a small company, based in Chicago, called Mom Box. So I felt it was only right that I changed the name. Your name is everything, when you are starting a business (in my opinion). I did some more research and found that the words “mai” stand for “mom” in Leonese which is a Spanish dialect. It just fit so I ran with it!
How does the subscription work?
Right now, we are bi-monthly. When you subscribe you can choose from doing an automatic renewal every two months OR you can choose to pay for the entire year. If you know a mom who can learn to take some time out for herself, you can gift a box also.
How are the products in the box curated?
I choose a theme and then source products from there. I’ve found businesses on Instagram, Pintrest and a few Facebook groups that I’ve joined. I love discovering small businesses. It’s a huge plus when they are “mom owned!
What is your favorite part of the MAI Box?
My favorite part is curating. I love choosing a theme and discovering products for moms. Each box comes with 5-7 gifts for moms that will help her discover something for herself and have something that is all hers. Great surprises of inspiration, encouragement and love come right to her doorstep. All she has to do is find a quiet place and enjoy!
What does self-care mean to you?
To me, self-care is doing whatever it takes to strengthen our mind, body and soul. Each day, we should all do, read, see, think, smell, etc things that helps us grow. Something simple as reading a scripture before you get dressed for the day or before you go to bed; taking a long bubble bath; or reading a book.
When you’re not providing self-care to others how do you treat yourself to self-care?
This box is helping me do just that, because I wasn’t doing anything for myself outside of work and kids. I grew up reading and I love to read but I’ve never made the time to do so. Now, I try to read for at least 30 min a day. I start every day with a scripture. I volunteer at church! That is by far one of my favorite things to do because I meet new people each day and I get to serve and make other people feel welcomed.
When was the last time you took some self-care? What did you do?
Taking self-care is something I don’t do often. I would love to go to a spa or just stay at a hotel for the weekend.
Aside from subscribing to the MAI Box what three tips can you offer moms about how to achieve self-care?
1) Read something positive and uplifting daily 2) try a new lip color 3) Have a cocktail or glass of wine just because
Are there any plans for a daddy self-care box?
Let’s see what the future holds!
Your launch box went out in January what can member expect for the next box in March? Any hints?
March’s theme is “Go Green” — You can expect all natural and chemical-free products. This box features female-owned small businesses and some items you can enjoy in those long bubbles baths you’re going to start taking more often!
Speaking of the January box, thank you for featuring me. How can other moms be featured in MAI Box Magazine?
Each month we like to feature a new mom on our cover. We like to do this so that we can learn about the lives of other moms, how they overcome obstacles and how and if they take time for themselves. To be features, send us an email at email@example.com.
Thank you so much Lenora for chatting with me today. If you want to get your own MAIbox order is ASAP as the March box will be shipping out soon.
FYI: As cover mom for January MAIbox gifted me with a complementary box for the purpose of this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I love traveling, especially road trips. They’re the best! Everyone piles up, gets comfy and goes on the ride of their life. This is exactly what me and Allaya did as we made our way to Washington DC for the VisionCon event. Thanks to DriveShop we were able to ditch our mommy mobiles for the 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE. This was gonna be one kick-ass road trip and overall husband and kid free weekend. And it was.
We pulled out of Brooklyn after 7p and got to DC around 12:30a. We got there late cause I left my wallet in the house and had to turn around, slight traffic since it was a Friday night and we stopped for dinner and stayed a little too long at the rest stop. Mommy brain is strong with me okay.
The first thing we both noticed about the car was how comfy it was. This car may look small on the outside but looks are deceiving. It was roomy. The handle was really good. There was no hesitation and gave us a smooth ride the whole way. The entire trip would be just under 500 miles and we only had to fill up once. It came with a full tank and when we pulled into DC I had a quarter tank left. I filled up when we left and made it back with a little less than a quarter tank. NICE! And no road trip would be complete without tunes. The radio and it sounded great! We pumped tunes and sang like we weren’t killing each others eardrums.
Here are more standard features of the 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE
I had a standard 4-door vehicle that came in a really rad sapphire blue exterior with black interior and push to start up/stop button. I really liked this feature due to the convenience , but I had the feeling that I was going to lock the key in the car. It is something one need to get used to if you’re going from key start up to button. It also had power windows and door locks, as well as, LATCH child-restraint system and child safety rear door locks.
It also comes with:
Engine type: 1.2 L MIVEC DOHC, 12-valve Inline 3-cylinder
Horsepower:78 HP @ 6000 rpm
Bluetooth hands-free phone system with steering wheel mounted controls
There were several features this car had that I’ve never had before. Keep in mind I was driving a 20 year old car not too long ago so some of these “perks” had me hype.
6-way adjustable driver seat and 4-way adjustable passenger seat
I am a tall gal and sometimes it’s hard for me to get comfortable behind the wheel. With the 6-way adjustable seat I can make sure I’m driving comfortably without worry of leg cramps and knee pain.
Front seat heater
It’s winter time. Nuff said.
Auto-dimming rear view mirror with Homelink
This is perfect to protect your eyes from drivers who insist on driving with their headlights on. Why they do this I do not know. But I feel like this should come in ALL cars because no one wants to be blinded by the driver behind them.
5.5″ Audio display with Smartphone link system Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
This was my first time driving to Washington DC, which means I needed GPS. Instead of draining my droid I was not only able to charge it in the car but have my phone home screen appear on the car display. Now that is some cool shit. This eliminates having to fumble with my phone (not that I would), but it makes it easier to take calls and to use the map to help get us there safely.
Rearview camera system
This is probably one of the sweetest features…rearview camera. Ohhh ahhhh….yeah buddy! The moment you put the car in reverse you are automatically able to see what’s behind you. That means you’ll no longer tap the car behind you parking or run over the kid’s bike. Although I am conditioned to turn around to visually see for myself it made things easier because I knew I didn’t have to turn around in every instance while parking.
See for yourself how cute she is. yes, it’s a she…
This car is super cute and gave us a smooth ride to and from Washington D.C. This is perfect little car for a single, couple or a family of 4 with small children. It’s THAT roomy! The Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE starts at $16,995 before taxes and other added fees that come with purchasing a vehicle. Cute and affordable!
Overall, it a was a great road trip that was much deserved. We’re looking forward to our next road trip – wherever that takes us.
FYI: DriveShop provided the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE for the purpose of this road trip and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Mommy R+R is a self-care escape exclusively for moms. It was created after attending one too many playdates where I noticed the only thing other moms talked about were their kids. That lead me to wonder who they were prior to being a mother, and Mommy R+R was born. It’s time for moms to get back in touch with who they are so they can rediscover and reconnect with themselves.
