Name – Kim S.
Location – New York
Occupation – I work F/T in the managed care industry, I am also a freelance makeup artist, and the owner of two blogs, Makeup by Kim Porter and Beauty and the Bump.
How many children do you have? I have one daughter. She’s a threenager.
What are your favorite hobbies? Blogging is a hobby that’s turning into something more. I also love doing makeup.
When was the last time you had mommy me time and/or couple time and how did you spend it?
The last time I had me time was hmmm Saturday morning before my daughter’s dance class. I drove to the bank, and filled up the car. Then, I chilled for a few minutes before heading back home. My husband and I just saw The Book of Mormon on January 18th, and two weekends prior we went to see another Broadway play, and had dinner. Hopefully, we keep this going throughout the year.
How do you balance everything in your life so that you can have a little alone time? There is no such thing as balance, especially when you’re juggling a full-time job, two blogs, a threenager, a husband, and yourself. I try to do the important things first, make lists, and utilize my iPhone’s calendar to keep track of important dates.
If you could spend 24 hours alone how would you spend it? I’d rent a hotel room and get rest. I would also contact one of my friends who owns a mobile massage therapy company, and have a massage, and then sleep some more.
What is your family’s favorite fun time activity? We honestly don’t have a favorite fun time activity. We go with the flow. My husband and daughter run around the house doing the most random things. We’ll go to the zoo or something.
What advice would you give a mom who is struggling to find that slice of mommy me time?
Even if it’s taking 20 minutes longer to come home, spending more time in the shower, or waking up 30 minutes to an hour ahead of everyone just so you can have peace, do it! Your sanity will thank you. I remember, most recently after a dentist appointment how good I felt taking my time heading back home, sitting in the parking lot of Walgreens listening to the ratchet music I don’t normally get to listen to if my daughter is in the car. In such a amount of time, I felt so refreshed.
Thank you Kim for sharing your interests with us! I can totally relate to sitting in the car playing ratchet music. When coming from Target I usually just sit in my car an extra 15-20 minutes to listen to whatever is on the radio. A massage sounds amazing! I’m going to the spa tomorrow with the gals and we can’t wait. And taking time like this so necessary because you’re right trying find (and keep) a balance when you have so much going on can take its toll. But putting things in order does help, tremendously.
Well everyone, this concludes the Mommy Me Time profiles – for now. I thank all the moms who participated. I only expected the profiles to run for 2 months. But with such a positive overwhelming response the profiles ran for a whopping for 5 months! The profiles will only be gone for a little while and be back bigger than ever very soon. Keep your eye out.
Enjoy your memorial weekend!
