• 12 Holiday Comedies To Binge Watch This Holiday Season

Raise your hand if you aren’t into those sappy Hallmark Lifetime Christmas movies. I personally can’t deal with them. They’re literally all the same. I prefer holiday comedies to help get me through the season. You already know I hate the Christmas season so, yeah I need all the laughter I can get around this time of the year.

Since there are 12 days until Christmas here are 12 holiday comedies movies to watch every night of the week leading up to Christmas Eve.

    Bad Moms Christmas

Bad Moms Christmas is the follow-up to Bad Moms and this time we meet their moms. Now our three under-appreciated and over-burdened moms do everything imaginable to rebel against the challenges and expectations that are placed upon mothers during the Christmas season.

Sick and tired of being single on the holidays, two strangers agree to be each other’s platonic plus-ones all year long only thing is they break their main rule as they start to catch real feelings along the way.

    Surviving Christmas

Simply put, Drew is a lonely and obnoxious young millionaire who pays a family to spend Christmas with him. This movie goes exactly how you envision it would.

    Office Christmas Party

When Carol, an uptight CEO threatens to shut down her brother’s branch, the branch manager has an idea to throw an epic Christmas party in order to land a big client and prove the branch is worthy of staying open, but of course, the party gets way out of hand and all hell breaks loose.

  • Sappy Movies I Plan To Watch While NOT Celebrating Valentine’s Day

    (mrr pin image) romantic movies

I avoid Valentine’s Day like the plague cause I’m not into the sappy shit. I can’t do all that hugging and kissing n’shit. It’s weird and I feel weird doing it. Yes, I have a whole husband but it was my winning personality, charm, and good looks that won him over not my cold emotionless heart.

But see here’s the thing, just cause I purposely have no plans for Valentine’s Day that doesn’t mean I won’t happily lay in bed watching romantic movies. Yeah, yeah I know. How does someone who isn’t into any form of romance watch romantic movies? The answer is, I don’t know. It’s just like how I hate football yet I watch movies about the game. It’s just the way things are with me. I’m an Aquarius and there’s no figuring us out.

That said, here’s a list of 20 sappy movies I’ve seen more times than I can count but watch like I’ve never seen them before.

    The Notebook

The greatest love story of my generation. Who doesn’t love a summer love story about a boy and a girl who do nothing but kiss and fight? He’s an arrogant son of a bitch and she’s a pain in the ass. It’s a match made in heaven.

He’s a starving artist, she’s a snobby aristocrat, and together they find love on a sinking ship. *Spoiler Alert* He dies and five minutes after saying she’ll never let him go, she lets him go. I side-eye it every time. But I love Leo, Kate, and Celine Dion so I watch it every single time I see it’s on.

This movie shows you, everyone, ain’tcha damn friend. Sam loses his life, Molly is in danger, and Oda Mae is just trying to find out if she’s crazy or really talking to a ghost. Oh, there’s also some sexy clay penis shaping action here too.

    Love Jones

A photographer meets a writer and the sexual connection between these two is off the charts. That is until she leaves town for a job opportunity and to settle some things with an ex-fiance. When she comes back she sees him with another woman which leads her to date a friend of his. Now they’re even more broken so who knows if they can survive.

    Beyond The Lights

This is a literal damsel in distress film. She’s a singer not happy with her life and he’s a cop who literally rescues her off a balcony. They each discover who they really are and live life together in their own truth. It stars British actress, Gugu Mbatha-Raw who in my eyes can do no wrong and I’ll watch everything she’s in.

    Pretty Woman

Pretty Woman is a classic that will never ever get old. A multi-millionaire gets lost in Hollywood, he meets a lady of the night, asks for directions, and what was supposed to be a week-long business arrangement turns into an unexpected love affair.

    When Harry Met Sally

This one is for those folks who are total opposites but are out here making it work despite their annoying food ordering habits and other random quirks that no one else would be willing to deal with. This is also for the ones who didn’t like each other when they first met but grew to love each other after years of friendship.

    Dirty Dancing

She was nobody’s baby nor was she in anyone’s corner by the end of this movie. There’s no need for me to talk about it. You know what’s about and why it’s here.

    13 Going on 30

When your 13-year-old self gets tricked to being in a closet for some kissy time with a popular boy but instead all you get are crushed hopes and dreams. Oh, and when you come out the closet you’re now a grown-ass 30-year-old woman. Now you gotta live this new adult life in order to correct the past so you can be with the overlooked nerdy boy who loved you all along.

    The Thomas Crown Affair

A billionaire thief who steals priceless shit for fun meets a hard-ass insurance investigator who was onto him from the first time she meets him. It’s my favorite Pierce Brosnan and Renee Russo film. And her black wardrobe throughout this film is what my closet dreams are made of.

    Something New

When you don’t have success dating who you think you should be dating, you reluctantly try something new, but you’re too bust worried about what everyone thinks to really allow yourself to go with your gut. Thankfully, you come to your senses and let go, let flow.

    My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Her very traditional Greek family never thought she would get married. So when she meets the man of her dreams and gets engaged all hell hilariously breaks loose cause he ain’t Greek and he don’t eat no meat.

Harry and Meghan: A Royal Romance (A Lifetime movie)

Their love story is a relatable fairytale. The only relatable part being they met on a blind date through a mutual friend, cause most of us aren’t beautiful single actresses with friends who happen to have a real-life single prince in her rolodex. He’ll never king but he has his queen and together they will live happily ever after away from the racist British press and royal institution.

*Lifetime made a follow-up Harry and Meghan: Becoming Royal it wasn’t as good as the first.

    Notting Hill

She plays her celeb self, he plays his awkward self, and in a travel bookstore in the Notting Hill section of London, they find love. He also has a Kramer like roommate who 1. thankfully doesn’t ruin Hugh’s chances of being with Julia and 2. finds love himself. It’s a two for one in this English rom-com.

    Pillow Talk

It’s the 50’s version of catfishing with playboy Rock Hudson pretending to be a wholesome Texan cowboy trying to woo his crossed landline partner Doris Day, who despises who he really is, cause well he’s a playboy. They share a mutual friend so you know Rock’s ruse isn’t gonna last forever.

    Music & Lyrics

Awkward Hugh Grant is back, this time as a washed-up 80’s Whammish singer who gets a new plant waterer in Drew Barrymore who has a hidden talent of being a great lyricist. Together they get the chance of a lifetime to write an original song for a global pop singer. Know of a better fictional awkward music and lyric duo? No, you don’t.

    Brown Sugar

Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt. These two people knew from jump street they loved each other but instead of just coming out with it they get married and engaged (respectively) to other people all while continuing to pretend they’re just friends like other people can’t see they love each other.

    Sweet Home Alabama

This movie happens when you try to escape your hillbilly roots by moving to NYC where you eventually make it big and get engaged to the mayor’s son. But there’s one person standing in your way, your hillbilly husband who you never officially divorced. Now you gotta go back and face the truth. Who does she choose?

    Groundhog Day

This happens when fate forces you to relive the same day over and over in order to teach you to be less of an asshole and more of a caring human being. You also fall in love with your co-worker and win her heart with all the talents you’ve learned from living the same day for like a year.

    The Best Man

No good can happen the weekend you’re supposed to get married but you find out your best man banged your future wife while you were out banging other women but you mad cause she banged your best friend once in college. Oh, and the affair is the premise of said best man’s debut book which falls into the groom’s hands days before the wedding. Whew, chile.

    Walk The Line

He wants her and she wants him to get clean. But despite him struggling from a tough a childhood and addiction, they make beautiful iconic music together. In the end, it’s his willingness and her love that gets him through.

What are some of your favorite sappy movies to watch? Let’s talk about them.

  • 10 Health and Wellness Podcasts That Will Get You Feeling Recharged

    health and wellness podcasts mommyrandr

Podcasts have recently become my new favorite thing. I don’t listen to many but the ones I listen to on a regular are health and wellness podcasts. Why? Because my ass is tide y’all (yes, tide). So I need something that’s gonna help me get and keep my physical and mental health in order.

Here’s the reason why I love podcasts. You can listen to them anytime anywhere. A lot of them can be found on Spotify, iTunes, and Soundcloud which makes it easy to listen right from your phone. Which is what I do. When I’m cooking, cleaning, or even in the bathroom I can just tune in.

Now every podcast isn’t the same. Obviously. I listen to different ones that give me different vibes to go with whatever mood I might be in. Some are fun and easygoing when I want to laugh, some have soothing music and voices when I want to relax, and others are a little serious when I’m not in a jokey mood. But the one thing they all have in common is, they leave me feeling rejuvenated.

Here are 10 health & wellness podcasts that I’m currently listening to:

    Black Girl In Om

Hosted by Lauren Ash and Deun Ivory, BGIO’s mission is to promote holistic wellness and inner beauty for women of color. Bruh, I cannot express to you how much that I love BGIO. And it doesn’t stop at just a podcast, they have open conversations on Twitter centered around self-care, self-love, and self-empowerment. Use #BGIO to share your thoughts and opinions, as well as gain knowledge on what it means to be healthy and beautiful from the inside out.

    Food Heaven Made Easy

It’s got food in it so you know I’m all over it. Not because I cook, but because I eat. But this podcast is more than about food. It’s about how to take care of yourself starting with the foods you put in your mouth. They also share tips on how you can live a sustainable healthy lifestyle. There’s also a ton of healthy and easy-to-make recipes that take little to no time to prepare.

    Forever 35

Kate Spencer & Doree Shafrir are friends in my head. Now, be warned these ladies are all about facial serums, and as a woman of a certain age, I’m here for it. But when they aren’t chatting about facial products they discuss exercise, meditation, anxiety, and how life changes as they get older. They also have a Facebook group that focuses on self-care and wellness.

If you thinking you’re gonna get tips on taking better selfie pics then you’re in the wrong place. This podcast hosted by Sara James and Kristen Howerton is about tackling the tricky and elusive aspects of caring for ourselves. Each week Selfie tackles burning questions like: “Why aren’t I getting enough sleep?” “How do I find the perfect bra?” and every other topic from silly to serious in between.

    Happy Place

I’m a HUGE fan of anything British so there was no way this list wouldn’t include at least one English import. It comes compliments of Fearne Cotton who hosted Happy Place. I love happy place cause it’s based on helping you get out of your slump and into a happier mindset. Fearne interviews celebs who have either made a change in their own lives or who help people every day to find a different way of looking at life.

*This show has ended but it’s still a great podcast to check out.

    Therapy for Black Girls

Dr. Joy Harden Bradford is the truth, ok. Truth. Each week for about 30-45 minutes Dr. Joy with special expert guests discuss topics relating to the everyday lives of black women. In addition, Therapy for Black Girls has a Facebook group. It’s a safe space for black women to post their inner thoughts and feelings, and we work together as a tribe to help each other out. It’s a therapeutic community.

    Affirm Podcast

This biweekly mental health podcast is hosted by Davia Roberts who is a licensed therapist (LPC) and the creator of Redefine Enough. Affirm centers around women of color who affirm their worth, value mental health, and seek wholeness.

I’ve recently stumbled upon Untangle, a meditation-focused podcast hosted by Patricia Karpas who sits down with real people and experts who have devoted their lives to helping others through meditation. She covers topics ranging from why it’s important to meditate to how self-compassion practices change us from the inside out to why meditation helps with anxiety in adults and kids. I can’t really say too much about it right now as I just started listening, but so far so good.

This ABC-produced podcast was hosted by Emmy Award-winning ABC News correspondent, Mara Schiavocampo who shared her keys to living a healthier and happier life following her 90lb weight loss. This podcast is centered on health motivation (hence the name), to help you shed pounds and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

*This show has ended but it’s still a great podcast to check out.

    That’s So Retrograde

If you’re into retrograde/astrology then you need to check out Elizabeth Kott and Stephanie Simbari. They break down everything you wanted to know about Mercury retrograde is by using humor, pop culture, and interviews with experts. It’s lighthearted, cheesy, and fun which is why I dig it.

Molly Sims is back with a brand new book, ‘Everyday Chic‘ and in it she shares her secrets and tips that will help all of us live the chic life.

I love a good lifestyle book. Especially one that’s gonna help me in more than one that’s practical and easy for me to use myself. A couple examples of this are one thing in/one thing out for organizing closets and desk drawers. I don’t know about you but I’m always looking for a place to neatly store something when in fact I should be looking to store it in the garbage or in the donation bin. There’s also ways to step your house party game up from themes to decor and food.

And that’s not all, Everyday Chic is also gonna to teach you:

    • Family-friendly meal hacks and time-saving techniques.
    • Party planning like a professional, so you can party like there’s no tomorrow.
    • Strategies for creating a zen-like space and kicking clutter to the curb.
    • The accessory rule for your house—always remove one piece from any room you’re decorating.
    • Prioritizing the positive without getting hung up on the perfect. Perfection is a unicorn!

This is the perfect gift between girlfriends. And I’d also recommend Molly’s first book The Everyday Supermodel: My Beauty, Fashion, and Wellness Secrets Made Simple.
